What rules do we try to Follow

Eight precepts should be kept while in retreat.

We try to keep eight precepts while retreating:

  1. Try to avoid killing living beings.
  2. Try to avoid stealing or taking things without asking.
  3. Try to avoid having sexual contact.
  4. Try to avoid telling lies or having harsh speech.
  5. Try to avoid drinking alcohol or taking substances, which lead to carelessness (alcohol, drugs…).
  6. Try to avoid taking solid food after 12 o’clock midday until sunrise.
  7. Try to avoid listening to music, seeing entertainment, wearing garlands, adornments, and using cosmetics and perfumes.
  8. Try to avoid sleeping on a high and luxury bed.

Keeping these precepts will help a meditator gain mindfulness and concentration more quickly.

Additional Guidelines

  1. Try to avoid talking to other meditators or distracting them from their practice
  2. Try to avoid cell phones & distractions from the practice
  3. Try to be on time or slightly early to all daily schedules to avoid distracting others

If you need some afternoon drinks, you can bring fruit juice, yogurts, yogurt drinks, tea, and coffee because there is no meal after midday. Some huts also have a refrigerator. And there is a refrigerator in the hall if yours doesn’t have one.

We also need to know if you are a vegetarian. If you have a problem with not having a meal in the evening, for medical reasons or others, just bring something easy to store like biscuits but be aware of ants. It should be in a closed container. If you have more questions, please don’t hesitate to write to MC Brigitte.
